Meet Oh Happy Fry Brand Reps: Yasmin of @im_nettyy

You might have seen snaps of Yasmin’s home published in a couple of Singapore home and decor publications. So when it comes to home styling, this mom clearly knows what she is doing. Follow us along and learn her tips and tricks on making her home always awe-inspiring.

Hey, Yasmin! Could you tell us more about yourself?

Hi, I am Yasmin Yap. I am an educator, financial advisor, a florist, a cook, a cleaner, a discipline mistress, an all-rounder. OK, to put it simply, I am a Stay at Home Mom ✌ I have 4 boys at home - 2 wonderful and energetic twins boys, a cat son named Shiro and an adult boy, Mr. Husband. I used to be in the working world as an Ops Manager for 6 years before I decided to switch to a more challenging role, a stay at home mom.

We love every corner of your home! How would you describe your interior style in 3 words?

I love chic, natural living, and versatile spaces.

Basically, my style is just a compilation of things that I like. I like to rearrange stuff around the house every now and then just to make it a more conducive environment, esp for my boys as they are growing up and everyday learning.

Where do you find inspiration for your home styling? Any blogs/websites/Pinterest/Instagram accounts that we should know about?

Instagram is my main source of inspiration. I love clean spaces with slow living feel. You should check out @playfulmodernkids, @lepetitfika, and @roseyroselan accounts. I adore them.

Growing a family often means toys and trinkets can take over our homes. Do you have any tips on keeping the house still looking stylish?

I have to admit that sometimes the house does get messy. But my main trick is having stylish storage options. I have different storage baskets to store various types of toys. It makes it easier for the boys to clean up after their ‘projects’ at the end of the day. These baskets can really hide the mess while adding style notes to the room too 🤗

Lastly, we also adore your gorgeous breakfast bowls very much. How do you manage to make picture-perfect breakfast in the hectic mornings? And would you mind sharing one of your favourite recipes?

My daily life is pretty much a routine. I would get the boys ready for school first thing in the morning. Once the boys are in school, that is when I will make myself breakfast smoothie - my ME time to perk up my day.

Here’s a recipe for my favourite Blackberry Banana Smoothie:

To get nice creamy texture, we will need 2 frozen banana, about 6-8 frozen blackberries, 1/4 cup of milk and a tablespoon of agave syrup. Blend everything together and top it with your favourite fruits!

Meet Oh Happy Fry Brand Reps: Wendy of @wendology

If you love kids’ fashion, then you should definitely check out Wendy’s Instagram account where her two little darlings, Hayley and Finley, pose up a storm in the latest threads. We chatted with Wendy and asked her about her passion for kids fashion and tips on taking fabulous OOTD shots of the little ones.

Hi Wendy! Could you tell us more about yourself? What do you do and how did you come to posting daily pictures of your kids' outfits?

I'm a full time working mom, a teacher to be exact. I have been teaching for 17 years! I got married late and had kids late, so life only began in my thirties hahaha!

I became active on Instagram when I wanted to document my daughter's milestones. Because I am also into fashion, I transferred this interest to my children since I gained so much weight after having kids that I couldn't be fashionable anymore (laugh). I also started to pursue my passion for photography. One thing led to another and now I am able to marry both my interest in fashion and passion for photography, using Instagram as an outlet.

We love how stylish Hayley and Finley are! Where do you hunt for their trendy outfits?

While browsing Instagram, I found that there were shops selling kids clothes on the Instagram platform. 90% of my kids' outfits are from shops that can be found there, and mostly from the US and Australia.

Do you style all their outfits? Or do they get to choose what they want to wear?

Yes, all styling is done by me. From hair bows, hats, bags, to shoes and even choice of socks. Hayley gets to choose what she wants to wear sometimes, with quality control by me. Finley is too young to choose haha! I'm lucky they are not picky about the clothes they wear!

We have been wondering what do you do with the outfits that Hayley and Finley have outgrown? Do you keep or sell them? How do we get dibs?

I sell the ones that have high market value. The resell market in the US is extremely popular, unlike that in Singapore. I sell them on BST (Buy Sell Trade) groups on Facebook, or my closet Instagram account. Friends and even strangers usually contact me via Instagram to ask for dibs or to sell them Hayley's clothes. I oblige wherever possible. For clothes that cannot sell well, I usually give them away to friends, or to the Salvation Army, or even to my helper to send back to her home country.

Hayley and Finley always look very comfortable in front of the camera. How do you get them to pose? How long do you take to finally get that one good picture? Any photography tips on getting good OOTD pictures of kids?

I started getting Hayley to pose by standing against a wall, with an iPad playing a video above my head as a distraction. Or I “bribed” her with treats. After getting Hayley used to the wall, I moved on to outdoor shoots. I also instruct and demonstrate to her how she can pose. Now that she is older, she doesn't really need any treats anymore and she automatically poses for me. I use the same method for Finley and it is working so far.

Getting good pictures can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 mins, depending on their mood. I usually use the burst mode function of my camera, hence I usually get 5 good pictures out of the 50 that I take hahaha!

Do your children get recognised in public? How do they react to strangers’ attention? Have you ever felt concerned about their privacy?

Occasionally they get recognised in public. I don't think we are popular enough to be recognised. When we do, I will get the kids to say hello. If they ask for pictures, I will also oblige, with a request to tag me if they want to post the pic on Instagram.

Yes, privacy is a big issue for me, I screen my followers regularly and block suspicious accounts. I am well aware that having a public Instagram account increases the likelihood of my kids' pictures being stolen and used inappropriately. But because we are now Instagram influencers, it is difficult to privatise our account. When my kids are mature enough to make decisions on their own and wish to stop having their pictures posted on Instagram, I will respect their decision.

Hop over to her Instagram page and you will be greeted with pictures of beautifully arranged trinkets, drool-worthy desserts, and the cutest cafes. Follow us as we chat with Gina, one of our Brand Reps, about her daily life, inspirations and flatlay how-to.

Hi Gina! First thing first, could you tell us more about yourself?

I'm a working mum to two wonderful kids with a passion for coffee, tea & flowers - all which can be seen through my Instagram.

Letter Board available here.

I started Instagram with just photos of my kids. Then I discovered there was more to Instagram than just posting personal photos. I found many inspiring and interesting feeds which motivated me to be creative in my photos.

I bring sincerity and positivity in my post, with hopes that those who view my feed will feel happy and encouraged too.

Your Instagram feed is filled with pictures of cute hangout spots and pretty desserts! It makes us wonder how does a day in the life of Gina look like?

My weekdays are pretty boring as we have our usual schedule of work and school. Some mornings, if I'm up early, I would shoot a flatlay or two. But it's usually weekends that we have time to explore cute cafes with pretty desserts and when I shoot photos for my feed or collaborations.

_hello_g_ flatlay 2

We find your pictures and messages inspiring and encouraging. What inspires you the most though?

Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that! That is really how I want for people to feel when looking through my feed. I'm inspired by the beautiful photos on many wonderful feeds about parenting, food, travel, fashion, etc.

There are countless gorgeous flatlays on your Instagram feed. What’s your first step in creating a flatlay? Do you think of a certain theme or colours? Could you share with us the steps and secrets in creating the perfect flatlay?

Yes, I think of my colours for the week. It's usually pastels that I tend to favour.

Gather objects that complement the colours then arrange them as neat or as casual as you like. I love adding flowers to my flatlays as I love flowers.

_hello_g_ flatly 3

Three essential items you would recommend to a flatlay beginner are…

1. Space with natural light. Best time for shooting is in the morning or late afternoon.

2. Neutral background ideally white, it could be wooden floor, table tops, bed or even a white cardboard.

3. Choose a theme & colour palate for your flatlay so that everything matches.

4. [Bonus tip!] Experiment with different layouts, remember to leave space in between the items.

Do you edit your flatlay pictures afterwards? Any app recommendations for editing pictures and make them more Insta-worthy?

Yes, definitely. Editing is very important to give your photo that extra spark! I like to use Camera 360, VSCO & Snapseed.
