This essential companion to Chineasy includes 60 gorgeous full-color flashcards to practice and master the key characters of the revolutionary visual method for learning to read and write Chinese.
ShaoLan Hsueh used her entrepreneurial and cultural background to create Chineasy—an extraordinary and simple system for quickly learning the basic building blocks of written Chinese, one of the most difficult languages to master. Working with renowned illustrator Noma Bar, she “unpicked” Chinese characters, turning them into pictograms that are engaging, delightful, and easy to remember.
With this practical addition to Chineasy—the book that made her graphic learning method available to everyone—she takes her system to the next step. Packaged as a convenient boxed set, Chineasy Flashcards contains 60 colorful cards and an introductory tutorial card. Each flashcard features one large, bold Chinese character in pictogram on the front, along with its English translation. On the back, the pictogram is “unpicked” to display its actual Chinese character, and includes three compound words that use it.
An easy, fun way to learn the basic building blocks of written Chinese, these flashcards can be used on their own or in conjunction with Chineasy.
About the Author
Born in Taipei and now living in London, ShaoLan Hsueh is a creator, entrepreneur, geek, writer, traveller and dreamer.
Chineasy is based on a method that ShaoLan designed to help her two British born children learn to read Chinese. She launched Chineasy after a rousingly well-received TED Talk in Long Beach, California in 2013. Her aim with Chineasy is to help anyone in the world to understand China, Chinese culture and its language.
For her this is also an arts project, as she grew up in an artistic family, being the daughter of a ceramic artist and a calligrapher. She is connecting the dots by going back to her artistic upbringing, and connecting her life's journey through the East and West.
